It’s hot, we get it. The last thing you want to do is step foot into the kitchen. And with last-minute BBQ’s and jaunts to the pool, it’s hard to stick to a plan. But fear not, you can still be a successful meal planner in the summer.
Just follow these 7 tips…
1. Make a plan, but let it be flexible
Plan and shop for 3-4 meals per week, and don’t be a stickler for which days you actually cook. (Taco Tuesday is just as delicious on Thursday…)
2. Choose light dishes, suited for summer weather
Dinner salads are perfect for summertime meals. Not only can you prep the ingredients earlier in the week, but they come together quickly, can be customized for each member of your household, and there’s no cooking required (the best part).
3. Quick prep meals are your best friend
Embrace the rotisserie chicken. By skipping steps in your recipes, you’ll spend less time in the kitchen & more time at the beach!
4. Grill, grill, and grill some more
Cook your whole dinner outside. Throw your main dish, sides and even dessert on the grill! Easy prep, easy cleanup, and no need to heat up the house.
5. Fire up the slow cooker
Your slow cooker is for more than winter stews! Pop dinner in in the morning, then when you get home it’s ready to eat, all without turning on the oven.
6. Fish is perfect for summer
Fish and seafood make for light dinners, perfect for hot summer nights. Plus, it cooks quickly and is delicious on the grill.
7. Sheet pan meals mean quick prep and easy cleanup
If you have’t yet discovered sheet pan dinners, make them your first experiment this summer. Toss all of the ingredients on a sheet pan, top with olive oil & seasoning, and bake. And to make cleanup even easier, coat the pan with oil first.
